The reason why there are so many forms of music is because they belong
to a culture, to a social organization, a territory, a group of people,
or to religious practices.
The Salon de Musique collection, with the assistance of musicians, instruments
makers and musicologists, introduces the origins and forms of traditional
music worldwide and different types of improvisation.
Listening to new music often demands an effort of adaptation and comprehension.
Hearing the musical forms linked to their culture will make for a better
understanding of both the musiciansÕ motivations (and those of
their audience) as well as what they represent.
More than a simple initiation to instrumental practice, The Salon de Musique
Collection aims to provide better knowledge and greater tolerance of different
cultures...
With this collection, it seemed to us essential to renew the oral tradition
based on a direct relationship (using the audiovisual medium), allowing
anyone to connect the musical expression to the body dimension ("from
the movement to the ear / from the ear to the movement").
Video and DVD enable individualized apprenticeships, seeing and hearing
how sounds are created and organized (as closely and as often as necessary),
the transcriptions remain nevertheless a source of information for a better
understanding of forms and structures.
This is why, even if most of the music presented come from an oral culture,
we have decided to put them down in writing, either with a classical notation
or the use of onomatopeas.
We hope you enjoy viewing and practising your instrument, in alone or
with your band.
